Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a specialised, gentle massage technique designed to support the natural movement of lymphatic fluid through the body. Unlike traditional massage, it does not use deep pressure.

The treatment uses very light, slow and rhythmic movements following the pathways of the lymphatic system. Because lymphatic vessels are located close to the surface of the skin, gentle and precise movements are used rather than strong pressure.

What can Manual Lymphatic Drainage help with?

Manual Lymphatic Drainage may help to:

  • support the natural flow of lymphatic fluid
  • reduce temporary feelings of puffiness and heaviness
  • encourage gentle movement of excess tissue fluid
  • support general circulation of lymph
  • promote relaxation through slow, rhythmic movements
  • leave the body feeling lighter and more comfortable

MLD is not a substitute for medical treatment. Persistent or unexplained swelling should always be medically assessed before massage.

Contraindications

Manual Lymphatic Drainage may not be suitable in cases of:
